Demonstrating a graceful expertise in teaching tango to students from Boise and beyond, DETLEF ENGEL & MELINA SEDO inspired and encouraged fortunate workshop participants to learn challenging ideas and concepts during their 4-day workshop in Boise. The workshop also included several guided practicas in which Melina and Detlef worked closely and individually to reinforce class concepts and help students use their newfound skills. Melina created a enthralling atmosphere at the Saturday Milonga by serving as DJ for the evening, and inserted a playful element with her choice of amusing cortinas. During the Milonga, she and Detlef  brought elegance and grace to the floor during their performance, concluded by unanimous applause. Thanks go to the Wood River Valley tango enthusiasts, five of whom joined us for the workshop, and to Marjorie & Michael who joined us from Washington state. Thank you especially to Pat Harris for her continued support of Boise Tango Society, to Kim and Linda for hospitality, to Debbie who handled registration, to Elizabeth who set the stage for the Milonga, and to Tim, Ken C, Debbie, Elizabeth, and Ken A for assistance afterwards. If I’ve forgotten anyone, my apologies. Check the Photos tab for pictures from the workshop.

41 Attend Felipe & Rosa Workshop!

Workshop participants enthused about the quality of the instruction offered in the classes taught by Felipe Martinez and Rosa Corisco beginning on Friday the 24th and wrapping up on Sunday the 26th. Twenty-six people, many of them brand new to tango, enjoyed the excellent Intro to Tango lesson Friday evening. Dancers also discovered that Jeanne’s renovated art studio could serve as a perfect tango floor at her after-hours party Friday night.

Women and a few intrepid men found that learning can be fun & games in Rosa’s Followers Techniques class Saturday morning. During the afternoon we all learned what was to become our mantra, “relax your arms.” After class, many volunteers helped set up for the Milonga. Then hungry dancers found a pleasant repast at Dream Cafe before heading off to the evening’s Milonga. Felipe provided the music as our DJ for the evening and filled the floor with blissful and passionate dancers.

Sunday’s workshops included a challenge to participants to learn to navigate in small spaces, and during the vals class Felipe used folding chairs in a unique demonstration of vals rhythms.

We welcomed out of town participants from our sister community in the Wood River Valley, and also from Salt Lake City and Seattle. Pawel’s attendance was a special surprise to the many in the community who have missed his supportive presence and his generous dancing and DJ’ing. Thank you to the many people who helped in the planning and presentation of this event!

Pictures from the workshop have been posted, and can be accessed through the link on the Photos tab.
