“Fusion” Tango lesson

Thursday Practica 5/27/10

Thursday Practica 5/27/10

This weeks Thursday Lesson/Practica at Joel’s Heirloom Dance Studio grew in attendance to 18, including a perfect balance of 9 men and 9 women of all ages.  The emphasis this week was “Fusion Tango”….spicing it up with elements of other dance forms to add to the intrigue.   The lesson was a success as measured by the the fact that the whole class stayed to participate in the Practica.

Thursday Argentine Tango Lesson/Practica hosted by Joel Hunter at Heirloom Dance Studio, 765 Idaho Street, downtown Boise. Lesson 8-9 pm, open dancing 9-11 pm. Beginners welcome; no partner necessary. Contact Joel at 871-6352 for more information.  Lesson and Practica; $5.00.

Jessica’s Moving Away Milonga

News;
Saturday May 22 was Jessica’s Moving Away Milonga. She and Ken paired up to give a great lesson on the volcada and related nuances. It was a celebration saddened by the fact that Jessica is moving from Boise. Jessica has been a welcome addition to the Boise Tango Community and we will all miss her. She looks forward to dancing with us again when we visit Portland.

NEWS – FIRST THURSDAY PRACTICA & LESSON

Joel Hunter hosted this Thursday’s tango practica and he and Janie gave an introductory Argentine Tango lesson to more than a dozen enthusiastic participants, including a few of the Boise Tango regulars.  The gender balance was nearly perfect.  The response of the newcomers to tango was positive and most stayed to participate in the practica afterwards.  “High octane”  beverages were served.  Prospects for reviving the recent slump in momentum of tango in Boise appears good.   Joel’s experience in teaching various other forms of dance was apparent as he did a fine job of teaching tango fundamentals.  Thanks to Joel for continuing the practica and promoting the expansion of participation in tango in our community.

PRACTICAS CONTINUE!

Demonstrating a graceful expertise in teaching tango to students from Boise and beyond, DETLEF ENGEL & MELINA SEDO inspired and encouraged fortunate workshop participants to learn challenging ideas and concepts during their 4-day workshop in Boise. The workshop also included several guided practicas in which Melina and Detlef worked closely and individually to reinforce class concepts and help students use their newfound skills. Melina created a enthralling atmosphere at the Saturday Milonga by serving as DJ for the evening, and inserted a playful element with her choice of amusing cortinas. During the Milonga, she and Detlef  brought elegance and grace to the floor during their performance, concluded by unanimous applause. Thanks go to the Wood River Valley tango enthusiasts, five of whom joined us for the workshop, and to Marjorie & Michael who joined us from Washington state. Thank you especially to Pat Harris for her continued support of Boise Tango Society, to Kim and Linda for hospitality, to Debbie who handled registration, to Elizabeth who set the stage for the Milonga, and to Tim, Ken C, Debbie, Elizabeth, and Ken A for assistance afterwards. If I’ve forgotten anyone, my apologies. Check the Photos tab for pictures from the workshop.
