Boise Tango

HE DANCED HER TILL SHE CRIED

Igor Polk teaches three tango lessons a week in Palo Alto, Ca.  I had the opportunity to accompany Debbie Burnham to one of his lessons recently and witnessed a touching tango experience I have never seen or heard of before.

Debbie had expressed doubt about her tango skills, as she had not danced for the seven months since she had moved from Boise to California.  As the lesson progressed in the normal fashion; instructor demonstration, switch partners, try it, etc.,  Igor picked Debbie to demonstrate the next little sequence.  She had a skeptical look on her face as he coaxed her to the center. He demonstrated the next sequence but then seemed to get lost in the dance and just kept dancing until the music ran out.  Meanwhile Debbie appeared to be in that trance like zone, floating through the dance.  When it ended the class erupted in applause and as she walked off the dance floor in a happy glow, tears rolled down her cheeks.  She had been danced till she cried.
